Why is my Sony Video DVD recorder not powering on?

I have a Sony Video DVD recorder model RDR-VX500 that will not power on when plugged in, either manually or with remote. Checked outlet and replaced batteries in remote. Still won’t power on. Is this something I can repair or do I need to take to repair shop?

the hardest part will always be the diagnosis. I would check the fuse on the power board first. Use a multimeter to check for continuity of the fuse. Then check for power. Use your multimeter in AC mode 120V and touch one probe on either end of the fuse and the other to a ground screw etc. The fuse in on the main board right by the power plug. you can always post some pictures of the boards so we can assist you with that. I have the same problem. Fuse is OK. But when I check fuse with multimeter as you say, it only shows about 25% of the voltage that the outlet provides. Is that right?
