Mid Battery replacement, accidental puncture of old battery, Help!

Hi all,

could anyone advise me how to proceed, was in the process of removing my old battery from my iPhone SE 16gb, after being unsuccessful in retrieving the adhesive tabs conventionally, i opted to try and lever the battery up off the adhesive tabs, causing it to distort slightly and i believe puncture through the outer black lining.

I noted a few very small sparks followed by a acidic smell, stopped the process and noticed the battery has warmed up but not swelled.

Can i proceed to lever it out and replace it? Am i at any risk of handling this punctured battery/ fumes i may have inhaled when it initially sparked?

Sorry for the essay, very new to these repairs.

Thanks again.

I would try pull the tape out as you should have done in the first place, just pull them slowly, if they snap then grab what you can with some tweezers and twizzle it round then pull again, if this fails then use a plastic store card to go under the battery and lever it up, start at the bottom and be carefull not to damage the cables that run under the battery at the top.

Ok thanks for that, am i safe to be doing this despite the battery being 'most likely' punctured? I guess im just paranoid it contains something toxic that may end up harming me as i lever it up and off the iphone itself.

Yes you may continue when it cools down and take lots of caution. I don’t know if you did but when you replace the battery make that battery the lowest percentage as possible .

Yes that is a very big mistake I don' recommend to try to drain it by turning it on. Try pulling it out after it cools down and be care full. If this happens again then just wait it out and continue.
