Hinge on VESA iMac vs Stand iMac (27” 5k Retina)

I've read everything I can find…what I haven't seen is any video or photo…

I really need to see photos of the hinge Apple uses for the VESA mount vs the Stand mount.

I have said iMac completely disassembled trying to figure out installing ANY VESA mount kit…or if someone can point me to somewhere I can purchase the iMac VESA setup for this iMac that has a stand currently?

The iMac was donated so I didn't have option of ordering a VESA mount version.

I have to switch…can't use a mount that goes over the Stand due to space issue.

Thanks

It’s a fair amount of work! Here’s the needed parts

  • VESA Mechanism Plate (923-0532)
  • VESA Tongue screws x8 (923-0334)
  • VESA Tongue (923-00084)
  • VESA screws x2 (923-0418)
  • VESA Plate (923-00082)

You need to get behind the logic board to get to the screws

First you need to take the 8 screws out (Light Blue) then the 6 screws holding the hinge (Orange) carefully lift off the hinge. Once the hinge is clear you can then put the VESA Mechanism Plate on reusing the 6 screws.

Then mount the tongue on with the 8 screws

Lastly mount the VESA plate on using the VESA screws

You’ll need to find a friend within an authorized service center willing to order the parts for you.

Thanks! That is what I’ve been trying to sort out...what darn parts I need so I can quit extrapolating what might be able to kludge it. Already torn apart to the needed level...had received faulty information that the hinge was the same for both & that I just needed to deal with the tear down. I’ve torn down a ton of machines considering I’m not an authorized repair person myself. Exist in a community that generally can’t afford the machines they need so I do a LOT of repairs.

Dan, does iMac Late 2012 use the same parts as described above?

Thanks

Sadly, the parts are physically different! Apple alters its parts just enough to force the need to stock multiples needlessly.

@Elcheesii 2 - The second image is the plate! Without it you have no means to attach the VESA arm.

The "mechanism plate"? Also is there an installation video?

by

@elcheesii2 - The VESA Mechanism Plate is what the VESA Tongue is screwed too from the out side.

by

ok thanks, is there an installation video?

by

@elcheesii2 - This is not the same setup as the 2017 model which you posted in your question.

There is no videos Apple or 3rd party that I know about.
