When I hold the off button down and then slide the screen to the turn off position, the ipod will not turn off. The apple icon continues to cycle on and off in the screen until my battery is discharged (usually about 2 hours).

It definitely sounds like a software issue to me. If you haven't already, try backing up your data and restoring the iPod through iTunes.

Tried that on Tuesday at the ipod store. They recommended going to ifixit.

I hope I am not duplicating my questions. I have already tried the recommendation made by Mr. Eisenman but it didn't work. Are there other options?
