Replace with new ifixit battery. Phone will not turn on. I put in the old original battery and it shows charged to 56%. Is the replacement battery bad?

You could try a hard reset: hold down the home and power buttons for 15 seconds or until the Apple logo comes on.

If that doesn’t work, and the original battery does like you mentioned, then yeah I’d lean towards it being a bad battery, I’d get it replaced.

Charge the battery. When your battery is completely drained, not even the no battery screen pops up. If that doesn’t work, it’s either bad, or it’s been in storage for so long that it went below the charging threshold.

Most likely based on how old your phone is, the battery you got it bad. Can’t imagine a lot of people still have a 4th generation iPhone so I’m sure the battery has been sitting around for a long time. As suggested, try leaving the phone plugged in with the new battery in it and see if you can charge up the battery. If not, then the battery is likely bad.
