How can I put my iPad into recovery mode without the home button?

I had recently removed the digitizer on my iPad Air, but the device was stuck with no touch, and I wish to reset it. How could I put the device into recovery mode, but with no home button, as the connector was snapped off of the board when I replaced the digitizer at an earlier time.

AssistiveTouch is the way to go. Go to Settings > General > Accessibility.

  1. Turn on AssistiveTouch.
  2. Connect your iPad to your computer.
  3. Open iTunes.
  4. Simultaneously, press and hold the Sleep/Wake and the AssistiveTouch Home button.
  5. This will force your iPad to restart. Don’t stop pressing until you see the recovery mode iPad screen.

So, AssistiveTouch disappears when restarting, and you cannot force reboot an iDevice with AssistiveTouch.
