looking for parts schematic, specifically for the white dvd drive protection system. Just changed the drive assy and laser lens and voila I found a single white piece on the floor. I have gone through all the repair guides I have found, both here and throughout the web and haven't been able to find anything.

Clint Birdsong it would be better if you have a picture or anything a bit more descriptive. I wonder if this is the part you are thinking off. ( see attached image :-) That is the white slide on the side of the drive that covers the gears. Good Luck and I hope this works.

No that isn't the area. I was looking at the unit a little closer and I think I found it on the reverse side across from this linkage that holds the drive brace down.

Clint, the same thing just happened to me, if I post a pic of the part, would you remember well enough to recognize if it was the same part?
