Can't find my new drive in recovery mode

Hi. I was recently told by an Apple technician that my hard drive for my MacBook Pro 13" mid 2012 needed replacing. So I purchased a compatible replacent with the same 500mb storage and successfully replaced it. Problem is I can't find the drive in recovery mode when I try to install the operating system. I tried my old drive and now that can't be seen either. Am I missing something in recovery mode or do I need a new drive cable?

You nailed it! The HD SATA cable has failed!

Here’s the cable you want MacBook Pro 13" Unibody (Mid 2012) Hard Drive Cable and here’s the guideMacBook Pro 13" Unibody Mid 2012 Hard Drive Cable Replacement.

There are two things you need to do here. First you want to place a strip of electricians tape on the uppercase where the cable crosses over to help protect it from the rough surface of the case. The second issue is don’t fold the cable sharply! You want a nice arc around the corners. Sharp folds damage the thin foil wires inside the cable.
