Laptop suddenly slow. Takes forever to do anything!

I haven’t used my laptop in a few weeks as I have a desktop also, however a few days ago I pulled it out to do some work. It took a while to come on and then I realised I couldn’t do anything on it, it had become desperately slow?

Ive tried:

malwarebytes full pro scan (malware/registry/free up space)

also tried the same with ccleaner

defragmented

removed and reinstalled memory/HHD

tried to install updates but its taking hour and hours without installing.

Sfc/scannow

taskmanager nothin abnormal

im at my wits end! Any help would be much appreciated!

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

suggest you to start checking with your hard disk first.

backup important files....

if all does not work well, consider a OS format and reinstallation.

Hi @kaned123

What OS is installed?

Have you tried starting in safe mode to check its' performance.

If you have 3rd party A/V software installed have you tried disabling it to see if performance improves?

Windows 7 professional, no third party A/V software. It runs normal in safe mode?

Hi @kaned123 ,

Check in event viewer to see if there are any error or warning events that may give a clue as to what is happening.

Running in safe mode OK usually means that there is a driver problem as Windows loads basic generic windows drivers to run the OS or there is a startup program that is causing the problem.

You said that Task manager looked OK but did you check what programs are shown in the Startup tab and try disabling them one at a time to see if it changes anything?

Just noticed in task manager processes there's 'opvapp.exe' which wont let me end the process?
