Charging Port Issue Or Other Problem?

Recently I’ve noticed that my iPhone doesn’t always charge when plugged in. Sometimes it will be charging and then I’ll get a message saying “This accessory is not supported.” The times that it charges vary. Sometimes it charges for a long time and sometimes it charges for a few seconds before disconnecting. This has become an annoying issue because I used to use my iPhone as an alarm clock (I had to buy a real alarm clock so I didn’t miss those 8 am classes). And I can’t use it as an alarm clock if it’s dead when I wake up because the charger disconnected. Battery has already been replaced, but no other repairs have been done. Also I’ve used multiple charging cables, I’ve used Apple Genuine, off brand, long cables, short cables. They all fail at some point.

Have you tried changing the charging base that connects the cable to an outlet?

I have plugged this phone into a computer, an iHome dock but haven’t had any different results. I’m not sure if this could count as a different charging base but other than that I have not used a different charging cube.

Hi Ryan, I am sorry you are experiencing this issue, I have a few options for you.

  1. You could take the phone back to the place you had the battery replaced and describe the issue you are having to them. If you did the repair yourself, I might recommend trying another battery.
  2. Check to make sure your phone is running the latest iOS version, as this problem was introduced after iOS 12 was released.
  3. It could be the charge port that has gone bad, and would need to be replaced, it is a moderately difficult replacement, as you have to remove the Logic Board and most of the phone’s components.
  4. The repair shop that I work at has had several iPhone 6 and 6s with the same issue, and a battery replacement was a solution.
