No cellular reception - first course of action?

I have been handed a phone to fix which has no cellular reception, but connects to WiFi. What would you recommend would be my first course of action with this? What antenna should I replace? It has already been reset, so it isn’t a software issue.

Try dialling *#06#, that should give in return the IMEI number..if you get nothing it’s a typical baseband fault that needs a microsoldering repair. If IMEI is there you may try to get a replacement lightning connector which has the main cellular antenna embedded, if it’s an antenna issue on your present lightning assembly with the new one you should have some at least some weak signal even if the dock is not properly mounted to the housing.

Thanks! I'll try that, and then comment back the result.

Dialling *#06# doesn't return anything, so it is a baseband fault? How hard is this to fix for the microsolderer?

@albert8181 It sounds like a baseband issue. I personally fixed a few but had some that didn't have anything to do with the usual edge faulty pads, in which case it may be very time consuming given the great number of BB related components. An experienced microsolderer shouldn't have major problems fixing the BB itself, if it's a secondary issue much depends on diagnostic skills and time available.
