the port on my aspire became loose pretty early on, I never got round to fixing mine..just moved the cord slightly until battery/power lights are on and then prop something underneath the cord to keep it in place. When I looked at the port it was the plastic surround that had cracked, not the actual internal connection on the motherboard. I don't think it is worth replacing such a small piece of plastic.

Sorry patrick accidentally seem to have delete my answer. Anyhow it appears that you will need to replace the DC adapter on your motherboard. I do have the service manual available for you if you would like to look at it and see if it is something that you might want to tackle. There are a bunch of great people on here that are more than willing to assist you with this. Just posted the service manual for you to download Good Luck

do you think it is worth fixing or should i just buy a new laptop?

take a look at oldturkey's link and see whether you can find the part that's at fault, how easy it would be to replace and whether you can get that part. laptops aren't cheap so if you can fix it I would, the whole point of this site is to prevent otherwise repairable items ending up as landfill. wait and see whether someone with experience in fixing acers can help you better...

Hi I have the exact same problem. The Old turkey link isnt working any more. Can it be reloaded so I can download it and try to change the DC adapter - this is a great site, and thanks in advance, Paul

a new dc jack costs £4 or about $6 it will take you an hour to fix if its the first one you have done just take it slow, lay out all the screws you take out and do some simple drawings if it helps.

its not that hard if you just take your time and put eveything back properly.

These are real questions? Power cords and how do I hook up an external web cam? Really?

Well, we all start from the first lift of the lid. So hang on and be patient. You'll get the hang of it but you must use your search engine and do research and learn. Order those repair manuals from ifixit.com.

Or buy a new one and send the old one to these folks. I'm 63 and all that computer lingo is beginning to make sense. It's turning into a second language. So go for it.

Don't know if any of these got fixed or not, but I recently had 2 laptops have this same condition and what I found by taking the laptops apart is that a little plastic tab that hold the DC jack to the case was broken, allowing the jack to move freely in the computer and the proper fix for it is to purchase a new lower case for the laptop.
