A1286 Unibody replacement across generation

Hello,

I own an an A1286 MacBook Pro 15”, Mid 2009, 2.66 GHz with CTO matte display. The unibody and display cases are severely damaged and now that it is not anymore my primary Mac, I would like to buy a nonfunctional model, recover unibody case and display and replace the malfunctioning electronics with the one from my model.

Do you know if this operation is possible or do I have to stay with the Mid 2009 family generation? Is there a sort of cross-compatibility of the unibody cases among the 2009-2012 models?

The 2009 model with matte display has the BT card in a different position with respect to the glossy model: could this cause any problem?

Thanks in advance

There’s no compatibility at all between 2009/2010 core2duo models and 2010 i5/i7 models and later, screen connectors for camera, wifi and bluetooth are different. Since you have the matte screen version there are differences also between yours and the other core2duo models with glass screen assembly of the same period as far as I remember, at least the bluetooth module and cable are unique to your model.

So I should stay with the 2009 generation, right?

@torakiki_83 If you want everything to work properly unfortunately yes, you will have to find another matte version core2duo model.
