That brand of SSD is great! My teacher still uses his old district-issued MacBook Pro from that year instead of the, uh… meh-worthy 2017 MacBook Air.
His computer was showing the flashing folder on bootup one day so he asked me what could possibly be wrong? I immediately suspected a dead drive and had him beg for district money to buy this particular brand. 2 months later, the district still kept denying giving him money to buy a new SSD. He finally coughed up his own money and bought the SSD himself.
After recieving it, he installed it immediately and got it up and running in no less then 2 hours.
As as soon as I saw this question, I emailed him asking about his current experience with this drive. Here is a transcript of the actual email.

Hi Aaron!
Thanks for checking in on this matter. I am happy to write a very brief review of this drive for you.
This drive works great great for almost all circumstances.
- Big Word and PowerPoint files load almost instantly
- I have gigabit internet at home, so files large and small in size download and save almost instantly
I have almost no performance issues that I can think of at this time. It’s a great brand of SSD, I highly encourage you buy this brand of SSD for your aging MacBook Pro too.
Have a good night,

TL;DR: My teacher has this brand SSD in his MBP, works almost flawlessly. In my opinion it isn’t that much of a step up from the original SSD in his MBP. However, I think you will like it.
