Why is toner leaking when printing with my HP4?

I’ve used this printer forever. Recently I replaced the toner cartridge and now the toner leaks all over the inside of the printer. Pages come out totally black. I’ve vaccummed the inside, tried another cartridge, but the problem continues. Any ideas?

It is probably the high voltage power supply. The print drum gets an initial charge to prepare for the laser scan phase which changes the charge on the drum to print, the next phase is the transfer phase where the image is electromagnetically transferred to the paper and then moved into the fuser to melt and press the image on the paper. The high voltage power supply supplies the charges to the drum, since the paper is fully black that indicates that the initial charge is failing .

What is the model number of your printer?

It is normal for there to be ink in the service station area where the printhead parks.

You cannot print without all the inks present and with adequate ink in the supplies.

When it comes to printer cartridges, regardless of laser or inkjet, it's best to purchase new manufacturer brand cartridges.

The model is a LaserJet4. All of a sudden it started printing black pages. I blew out the printer with canned air and replaced the toner cartridge but the problem continues. Since HP no longer has service centers other than Staples stores — at least no information about them on their website—I asked the “HP Pro” at Office Depot for suggestions. He also has a 4 —it’s a workhorse of a printer — and he suggested removing the cover, taking it outside and using a leafblower to clean out any remaining toner. Since our weather has not been conducive to taking the printer outside, this suggestion will have to wait.
