Why has the audio stopped working?

I was going to watch a YouTube video when I realized the audio wasn’t working. I went to adjust the volume and instead of showing how loud the volume is set to I get a circle with a line thru it instead under the volume icon. Both the speakers on the iMac and my headphones get the same icon and issue. What happened?

Have you taken it apart ever?

@dud1f3r Yes for a Logic Board replacement. However, I have made sure all cables were connected before calling it good. It worked for 2 days before this happened.

Could you try getting a new installation of MacOS and see if it's a software problem? Either boot off a different HDD or back up your existing files before doing it

I have a Bluetooth speaker that I am using for audio on my iMac now. It's substantial.
