Did you use any cleaners on the solder pins or just dust them? I would use some 85% or better isopropyl alcohol carefully going into the gaps of the connector pins.

Did you pull the logic board and clean the other side as well? Did you see any other damage?

What does an external display look like? Is the image clean on it? If it was then we need to focus the internal displays pathway as well as the LCD its self.

Lets also take a look at the connectors gold contacts. You may want to look at replacing it

Thanks Dan, I dont have the skill or courage to disassemble the board and do what you suggested. I think thats it for my mac... :(

by

@mac_obi I understand you might not feel like taking care of the repair yourself, but it's a nice machine and since damage seems to be limited you might find someone into component level repairs who might fix it for a fraction of its value.

by

@mac_obi - A good repair tech should be able to clean up the corrosion and if needed replace the LVDS cable.

Can you at least try an external monitor to see if the problem is visible on it.

Let us know!

Unfortunately we can’t see what you see, thus nobody will be able to help until you post a picture of the faulty area/component:

Ok sorry, I thought the images were attached the first time. Thanks for your time. Please take another look this time.

What you see there it might just be a minor "cosmetic" damage, as that inductor serves only the ethernet circuit , as @danj pointed out, which doesn't look severely damaged and in no case should cause an image glitch. Connector pins, despite inevitable dust on a Mac of that age, seem clean to me, but that's just a picture.

by

@arbaman - Look at the EMI seal on the connector the green is corrosion.

by

@danj You are right, I was looking at the board but didn't notice the oxide there. It seems there's some green oxide on the soft foam gasket above the ethernet port too.

@mac_obi - The component in the picture is the Ethernet transformer assembly. It does not effect the screen.

But! You do have quite a lot of dust and I do see some signs of corrosion. Lets do this get a can of can’ed air and a soft paint brush and carefully scrub the dust around the LVDS connector (the big one in the corner). Then use the can’ed air to push away the loose dirt. You really should do the whole logic board top and bottom after carefully removing it.

Look for signs of staining or corrosion (white or green caked on areas) if you do take a good sharp image of the area and post it here for us to see.

Smearing like you have of the image is signal issues within the LVDS connection. It can be corrosion on the logic board connector (which is what I suspect) either the soldered area or the interface to the cable and/or the cable its self.

Are you able to micro-solder? You may need to touch up the connectors joints.

by

Maybe it's just my eyes, but I can't see any darkened area on the connector Dan. I can see a light red spot on a test point, which might point to a minor short/overheating ? History as usual would help.

by

Actually the blue tint starts to appear when i use the mac for quite some time, Like 10mins in...

by

@arbaman & @mac_obi - Look at the pic I posted. You need to clean things here before you dig any deeper.

Not to steal anyone's thunder , but the experienced folks that chimed in on the LVDS connector are correct.

Reseat that a few times, cleaning the connector and blowing out with canned air.

Blow out the fat exhausts. I promise if you're smart enough to take the bottom cover off, you can do these things. You can do it !!!!

These steps, and the advice of fellow IT folks here got my 2012 Macbook Pro 15 inch i7 650 nvidia machine up working WITH NO MORE BLUE TINT/LINES!!!

I want to thank you all for pointing me in the right direction.

I forgot to mention that I had also disconnected the battery and performed a SMC reset.

Disconnected the battery , held the power button down a good 15 seconds, reconnected the battery.

However I always disconnect batteries and power from electronics before servicing them, lesson learned many decades ago.
