Display Not working when its fully extended

My display won’t come on when I fully lift it, when it’s slightly extended I can see the display working. I went to the Apple Store and they quoted me au $760 for the replacement of the display. Is there any way of fixing it or cheaper alternative?

Sadly, you’ll need to push to get them to service under warranty as they should as this is a design failure!

Others have gotten Apple to cave after some hardcore pushing (here in the States). Otherwise you really don’t have a choice as the cables in this model are soldered to the LCD. Here’s a good image explains things:
