iPhone 7 battery drain, discharge.

Hello.

First - thank you for this comunity, forum and all the answers here. Been really helpful.

But it’s time for my firs question.

I have second hand iphone 7 with battery that had close to 1000 cycles, and charging port that sometimes lost connection if the cable was moved. Replaced the battery and charging port. Abviously had really bad battery life and was discharging fast.

But all 3 new batteries (non-original) i tried shows “service“. As i read it just happens.

The phone carges ok, boots ok,connects to computer, draws current ok (as far as i can tell without testing it with multimeter on the board) but still discharges quite fast. 2x-3x times faster than normal iphone 7. Tried disconnecting all parts but the result is the same. If the screen is disconnected it seems to discharge even a little faster.

From what i have read it seems that it could be te u2ic tristar fault.

Phone has been updates, restored and reset.

Could it be anything else?

Are there any other ways to check it?

As the local options to replace professionally is around 100 euros without warranty.

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

For the repair shop I work in, after trying a replacement battery and charge port, if the device discharges quickly we do just as you did, in trying multiple batteries. Assuming that all connections read strong via the lightening port, if all batteries are discharging quickly, then you’re correct in assuming that the chip is likely to blame. More often than not repairing the TriStar is a temporary fix, and doesn’t hold up well over time, hence the lack of an offered warranty. You could get the chip fixed and cross your fingers, or look into a new phone. Best of luck!

But could the "Service" nex to battery actually point to something (in ios12 battery not being in Beta anymore)? Could it be difference between original and generic battery aswell?

Replacing a Tristar IC is a pretty common repair and I've never heard of it being a temporary solution. If the owner is using cheap chargers, then yes, Tristar could fail again but nothing else points to Tristar not being a permanent fix once properly diagnosed and installed.

IMHO, you should never be dealing with a shop that doesn't warranty their work.

It could just be the shop we outsource our TriStar repair to, but no matter where we've worked through before they market it as a temp fix. We ourselves offer a lifetime warranty on all work WE do, but can't offer that for out-of-house repair. I personally agree that you should never get work done without a warranty.

As for the service notification you're receiving in regards to the battery, it's likely due to the device having an issue through the chip.
