Can I make this phone water resistant?

Hello!

I was wondering is I could add something to an iPhone 6 to make it water resistant. I already have the screen adhesive strips for an iPhone 6s, but will I need anything else to make it water resistant, or is not possible?

just because there are rubber gaskets at the Home and volume buttons does absolutely not mean it is water resistant. There are just to many areas where water will still enter your phone. I would suggest that you do not submerge it. Unless of course you do not like your phone. If you are planing to submerge it get a proper water proof case for it.

Are there any things you would suggest to do to increase the chance of survival of the phone in case of accidental brief exposure to water?

@albert8181 the only real protection would be a case. Precvention will be the only proper way to protect your phone. Otherwise you are going to take a chance.

Personally I think the iPhone 6 is pretty water resistant the way it is. To be fair it is not that water resistant but I have seen multiple people do water tests on their iPhone 6 (up to 1 minute under at least a foot of water) and the devices survived. Maybe someone else can provide a better answer but I think you will be OK the way it is.

Would it make a difference if I have replaced the housing of the phone? I can see a gap of light coming out from the mute switch. Water would be able to get in through there. Is there a way to fix that?

by

@albert8181 If that is the case, then maybe a new rear housing would be a good idea. You will however have to buy new adhesive and possibly damage the waterproofing even further, so it is up to you.

Would I be able to fashion some sort of gasket to block the gap?

by

@albert8181 Thats a tough question. I honestly don't know, but you might just want to buy a waterproof case like ones from Lifeproof. This is about as much as I can help you. Sorry!

Thanks for helping @ajcooke01 ! I'll see what I can manage to make

The best thing is to just get an external case which offer better protection. Altering the iPhones own case won’t do anything different than what Apple designed.
