Flashing folder when starting up MacBook Pro

Flashing folder whenever startup Mac, I’m not sure what to do I opened up my Mac and couldn’t find the hard drive

Sadly your drive (SSD) has lost its system. You might be able to recover by re-installing the OS, if that fails then your logic board will need to be replaced as the drive is soldered to the logic board and not replaceable.

Restart your system and press and hold the keys Command () and R to get to OS recovery either via your drive (hidden partition) or from the internet.

I had that same problem… it wasn’t the hdd (in my case ssd), it was the sata cable.

Unfortunately there no Sata cable of sorts in the OP's retina Macbook. You probably have a 13" Pro, completely different machine and architecture.
