iPod has stopped working

ipod was fully charged this morning.i disconnected it from the pc went to use it and it just stopped working.it was turned on and i went to turn it off and everything went blank.ihave tried holding in the sleep button but nothing happens

Sounds like a trip to the Apple Store is in order. All 4th generation iPods should be covered by warranty. Run the iPod's serial number through Apple.com and see if it has warranty left.

Also try holding both the power and home button down for about 10 seconds and see if it turns on.

Like @Evan said, try the combination as she suggested; this will 99% work cos that's the combination known as reset or simple restart by Apple. That will definitely save you a visit from Apple.

One more choice is that if you connect it to your computer and then press the combination. After that, open iTunes and see if your device is listed. If yes, then click on it. If it says that it has detected an iPod touch in recovery mode, then it means something crashed or stopped your iTouch from working and that's why it went to recovery mode.
