I think I found the part on iFixit, as well as eBay, but consult your repairman about this part before buying it though as it is pricy. iFixit is reccomended because of the quality of the parts so if you decide to get it from eBay buy it at your own risk.

Reccomended option: MacBook Pro 17" Unibody (Early 2009) 2.66 GHz Logic Board

Alternative option: https://www.ebay.com/itm/EXCHANGE-MACBOO...

Replace a 2.66 GHz logic board (motherboard) compatible with the Early 2009 MacBook Pro 17" Unibody laptop. Included Ports: Mini DisplayPort, 1000BaseT Ethernet, Firewire 800, 3 USB 2.0, Audio In, Audio Out. Fix processing issues like unexpected shutdowns, reboots, or water damage. Image

@ajcooke01 - We try to first see if our sponsor IFIXIT has the needed part before aiming people to other locations,

Sadly, Amazon & eBay have too many low quality parts so we try not to aim them that way unless it's the last choice, first seeing if one of the US or UK supply houses doesn't offer it (second choices).

As it turns out IFIXIT does have the part MacBook Pro 17" Unibody (Early 2009) 2.66 GHz Logic Board

@danj I saw the part on the website and came to the conclusion that leading a user to this particular part on iFixit would basically total the computer, so I didn’t want to put this user into that mindset as there are other options. Thanks for commenting anyways.

The other reason why I told the user to check with the repairman besides part compatibility is whether not this part would be safe and high quality enough to use

Unless the repair lab has a long standing tradition and very good reputation I'd never advise anyone to get into an eBay repair service, some are good some are nothing but a waste of money. Price of that listing makes me suspicious since a new reliable graphic chip for those machines costs more than half of the listing price and nobody invests thousands of $ in machines and works for hours in a chip replacement with 90$ gross labour costs, excluding ebay and paypal charges.

It makes much more sense to buy a good board from a reputable vendor, despite one has to invest double the money.

Just my 2 cents.

@ajcooke01 - These are still sought out systems! Working systems pull a premium $$

I've personally have been stung by eBay more than once! I even emailed the seller to verify it was the correct part, these people will say anything to make the deal so you can't depend on that either.

One part I got was so badly reworked I didn't dare put it in and had to eat the cost. Amazon parts are often 2nd's from the back door with no warranty it will work. The hassle of getting my money back also costs me time I often don't have.

If you know the source as being dependable thats different than just pulling a listing that google popped up. Companies that are in it for years on end are much better on their service and return policies. I would rather spend more knowing they got my back!

If you feel that strongly list both! That way the OP can decide which way to go.
