Touchscreen not working after screen replacement on iOS 11.4.1

Hi there.

I’m working on a friend’s iPhone 7 iOS 11.4.1 with cracked screen. I bought a high quality replacement apparently with OEM glass and OEM LCD. The touch, flexes, frame and the other components on the screen assembly are so called “high copy“ as far as I know. My dealer told me that these screens are the closest thing to original you can get on the market and it was the most expensive.

Once I installed the new assembly, the phone booted perfectly, but the touch (and of course 3D touch as well) stopped working. Home button still works.

I read that selecting “Reset all settings“ helped a lot of people with unresponsive screens after ios 11 was released, but my screen not working at all. I swapped back to the cracked screen and Reset all settings, then waited till it boots up and swapped the new screen. Same result: no touch. And I cannot perform this fix with the new screen because touch does not work.

I tried the same new screen on another phone with the same iOS 11.4.1 and non-original screen: same result. Whereas the other non-OEM screen had been working on that phone for a long time.

Next day I came back to my dealer and asked to replace the screen. He was surprised, because the screens they sell are very high quality and never fail. Still he agreed to replace and gave me a new one. I come back to install it and it is not working again.

Obviously it’s not the motherboard, since the old original screen works. It’s not the screen, because there is no chance that the both screens are faulty. I concluded that it’s the software issue, but it is the latest version and I cannot upgrade.

What’s the best solution? Has anyone experienced this issue recently?

If the screen that came with the phone still works try plugging that screen in and see if touch works.

If it does you need to try another supplier. Don't take their word for it.

If you think it's a software issue you can restore the phone to the same current latest iOS version make sure you backup it via iTunes before hand.

Thank you for the advice. As I said, it’s not the motherboard, since the old original screen works. Trying another supplier is not an option for me.

I'll try to install the new screen and restore the phone using iTunes.

By the way, is it possible to restore without ever touching the phone? I guess I'll have to disable "Find my iPhone" using the original screen first. Anything else to keep in mind?

Disabling find my iPhone is not required for restoring iPhones, it just removes the prompt for an apple id and password that was used on that phone for iCloud.

Try restoring with the original screen first then put the aftermarket one on after restore.

This sounds similar to an issue long ago with aftermarket screens where they would stop working when the phone was running iOS 11.3:
