Why is my screen displaying a blurred border and no picture

My macbook is displaying a black screen with a grey blurred border around the edges.

The MacBook connects to an external monitor fine. Any ideas?

The display got damaged somehow. Did you leave your system in a hot car? Or some where humid? The backlight defuser sheets and the polarizers have become damaged as well as the LCD panel.

At this point you’ll need a new display assembly. You’ll need to visit an Apple Store or authorized service center to get it fixed. Do you have an AppleCare + service contract? This is not a cheap part sorry ;-{
