Because the washer will fill with the lid open it will not proceed because the switch is either faulty or the plastic peg is broken that goes down thru a hole and activates the switch. Keep your hands safely away and use a dry stick to poke the switch to see if the machine will start to agitate. If not then order a switch or lift the lid and see if the wiring is loose.
