Will not boot after going to sleep

Hi everyone,

I’m not sure if anyone has encountered their MacBooks just stop working. My 2016 15” MBP went to sleep and never woke up, it lives on my desk I was doing some photo editing went out for a bit and when I came back and tried to wake it up and there’s no response. I tried every keyboard combination to try and power it on and I tried listening if there is fan spin when I tried to connect the power cable but there’s also no fan spin, I’ve also changed cables and my power brick and still no boot. Is it only me or is this common? and is taking it to apple my only option?

thanks!

Sadly there is so little thats serviceable in these newer MacBook Pro’s. From the sounds of it the logic board is having problems.

I hope you’ve been good on backing up as unless you ask they won’t salvage your data. Apple does have a special tool which they can use to gain access to your systems SSD. I would at least get them to give you access to the data (you’ll likely need to give them the USB-C drive to put it on to).

You’ll need to be sitting when they tell you the cost of replacing the logic board, Ouch! If you still have a AppleCare+ service contract that will take most of the bite of the cost.

Given the issues these 2016 systems have I would recommend you just get one of the newer 2018 models than spend the money fixing this one or if you’re lucky enough to still have a contract get it fixed and sell it and get the newer model.

Its sad that apple's quality control is going down, I mean I still have my 2009,2011 and 2013 macbook pro and they still work, granting the battery life isn't as it should be but they still power on

I feel your pain, I have two Unibody MacBook Pro's 2011 (17") & 2012 (15"). My 17" is acting up and I really want to get a replacement with a more powerful system so far Apple has failed to offer a replacement that qualifies (17" and has the needed ports). So I wait and wait ... If my 15" dies I will likely think long and hard what I will do.

Well just went to apple over the week end, and they said my mac will either need a logic board replacement or the entire top case will be replaced as well, oh well thank the stars I got apple care, its just a shame though that an entire board gets to be replaced, Im sure it could be fixed.
