3GS Battery drain with new IFixit replacement battery

Hey, I've been having a battery drain issue with my 3GS. Version 4.2.1. No problems with charging. Would go from 100% charge to 50% in 3-4 hours on standby, without any notifications, wifi, etc., on.

First of all, the original oem battery died, wouldnt take a charge. Replaced with a IFixit replacement battery for 3GS. APN : 616-0435. All was good for about 2 weeks later. One day the phone was charging overnight, woke up and the phone was drained to 10%. Left it alone for about an hour, and made sure it was plugged in. Came back to find the phone completely dead, couldnt reset or anything. Email IFixit, they sent another replacement battery free of charge.

Now its been about 3 weeks or so since installing the new replacement battery, the battery drains very quickly without using any applications or utilities. Always use OEM apple charger into wall outlet, havent seen any problems charging.

Anyone else have a similar problem?

Thanks!

It either could be another defective battery, or the firmware. Some people have reported major battery drainage with the 4.2.1 iOS, try upgrading or restoring it. If it still does that, I would contact ifixit for another replacement.

I replaced my iPhone 3GS battery last weekend using iFixit kit. It charges ok but drains rapidly also. I still have iOS 4.3.1 on it.

I'm wondering if during assembly/disassembly a short circuit was inadvertently introduced. Or maybe it is actually an old and tired battery (sold as new, maybe shelf life issue)?

This is six years after the previous comment, but just wanted to go on-the-record.

I think I'll ... let iTunes jump the iOS to 6.1.6. Yikes!
