Speaker gets hot when on standby

Hi there,

I wondered if anybody could help me locate the source of a problem I’m having with my iPhone 6. The battery seems to drain quickly on standby and I’ve tracked that back to a hot spot located on the front screen to the right of the home button, directly above the speaker component. The heating only occurs when the phone is completely at rest. If for example I run spotify on silent in the background this will prevent the heating and prolong the battery life. Running the application of course takes it’s on toll on the juice so it’s not an ideal work around.

The battery has recently been replaced by a third-party. I have tried a couple of different ones to see if that was the problem but it didn’t seem to be. Other issues are the the touch ID sensor doesn’t work but the home button otherwise works perfectly. And the silent rocker switch also seems not to work. The latter two issues are not a problem for me, I’m including the info to provide a thorough background only.

So really I just wondered whether anybody had encountered such a problem before and what kind of fault might result in such a standby-dependent localised heating. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

The hotspot you identify corresponds the the Touch ID circuitry on the Home Button Flex. While TouchID may not be important, the damage caused to the flex seems to be the cause of the battery drain. When in standby, the phone is relatively cool so you notice the difference caused by the Home button. When the phone is operating, it gets warm overall so you probably don’t notice the “hot spot” because it’s not hot enough.

Unfortunately, there is no way to repair a damaged Home Button. If you don’t care or need TouchID, then get a replacement HB…they’re cheap and easy to replace. Otherwise, have it repaired by Apple (they will change the screen & Home Button).
