Black screen but working

Hey guys! I got an ipod touch 6th gen from a friend, but i have a big problem. The ipod works, because i was able to restore it with itunes and i hear the locking sound after pressing home and then sleep button, but i have only a black screen. No battery icon, no itunes, nothing. The battery seems healthy, because i checked on my macbook with coconut and it’s in mint condition, but it didnt show me the cycle count.

I tried the hard reset fix, but nothing happened.

I could try to open it up, because its out of warranty and i have no apple service in a few hundred kilometres.

Any things i could check? I was thinking about the lcd connectors, because i think i have no possibility to check if the screen is bad. The ipod looks fine, i think it only fell in the low right corner, that place being the only one visible.

Thanks alot!

Answer this question I have this problem too

I opened it up and reseated the two connectors. No effect. The screen is still dead black, even tho the voice commands are working :). I think I’ll get a new screen someday and try to replace it. Thanks!

If you can troubleshoot the screen, then it is likely that it is a black screen caused by incorrect settings. There are ways to fix it.

It sure sounds like the LCD or the backlight. You'd surely want to check the connectors. Before you open it you could try to GENTLY squeeze the case edge all the way around the perimeter. If it changes it may indicate the cause.

When you turn it on do you see any change in the screen? If it's dead black then it could be the backlight. If there's some change (less black) it could be the LCD.

Hopefully it's just a loose cable and opening it and reseating will fix it.

Good luck.

I opened it a second time, i’m pretty sure it’s the backlight. The touch is working, because with voice commands i’m able to hear sounds when i press the touchscreen. My best bet is to get someday a new screen and test it with that. Thank you!

On some LCD displays, if you shine a light across the screen you can see some of the screen image. Just a shot but it would definitely point to the backlight. I hope you get it fixed.

Hey dany_17_lord

What you could do without taking anything apart first would be to hold the “Home Button” + “Power Button” for ten seconds to reset the SMC inside the iPod. This resets the controller responsible for the iPod’s Logic Board behavior.

If this doesn’t work then you should try to blow compressed air on the Logic Board connections that connect the LCD display. This will eliminate any corrosion.

If the problem still persist then unfortunately you will need to replace the LCD panel

Good Luck
