I don't have an iPhone X in front of me but the proximity sensor is soldered onto the ear speaker (the two gold pads). You should order an ear speaker that has the proximity sensor pre-installed, like this one here.

UPDATE

Currently there are all kinds of issues regarding Face ID and the Ambient Light Sensor. If these things are important, then you need to go to Apple to have the whole screen assembly replaced.

According to my research, in the event I would have to do this (not personally tested yet), there are some integrations on the flex cable. If you change the cable out, it may (because I haven't tested it myself) affect the Face ID. A lot of things I've seen online are people soldering out the damaged parts from the flex and replacing them. The other issue is how sensitive the cable is.

So if someone has an issue with the Face ID after display replacement, it's because you need the original camera/speaker flex and you need to inspect for damages, because that piece is delicate.

If any of my brethren on here have worked on these devices and have seen otherwise, please advise with details.

Good Luck

I was just answering your question about how to connect the two pieces.
