Top case compatibility - different keyboard layout
Can I change the top case of a Mack book pro a1706 with a Germany keyboard layout by a US English keyboard layout? Are they compatible?

Yes, *IF* it is the exact same model. Apple makes MANY top cases for a specific model of machine. As long as the Top Case is for the same model, you are fine, however, newer year models require an AMCT (Apple Mac Certified Technician) to run AST 2 to ‘map’ the Top Case to the MLB.

So, for the A1706 (end 2016 touch bar model), do I need to run AST2?
Or replacing the entire top case (excluding the touch id) will work?

Running AST 2 after replacing the Top Case, does at least two things … maps the Top Case to the MLB & calibrates the force touch track pad. The computer should still work, but the touch bar may not work as expected and the track pad won’t have the second click. The track pad has two “clicks”, one at 200 grams and another at 800 grams of weight.
