Touch ID not working with original screen assembly

The phone in question had an aftermarket LCD assembly including home button installed on it for awhile. I recently found the original screen assembly for the phone, however after switching them out, the touch ID still does not function. The popup saying touch ID can't be activated has gone away, but i cannot add a new fingerprint to the device. Any ideas? I'm running iOS 10.3.2 and would like to keep it that way if possible.

Answer this question I have this problem too

3 possibilities.

1) if you have updated your software since the new screen assembly has been installed, it would have wiped the paired serial from its database. this will cause no home button to allow the touch id to function properly.

2) the screen assembly should not be coming with a home button. if it is not the original home button, it will not work.

3) damage to the home button. it is possible the OEM home button may have taken some trauma to it during the drop, or the repair, causeing a lack of function

The phone has been on 10.3.2 since i've had it, so no update there. When i said original screen assembly, i meant the assembly i'd taken off the phone myself and ended up losing. I wrote the IMEI on the backside when i removed it so i'd know which one it was paired to. I suppose damage is possible, but unlikely. It's just been sitting in a drawer.

but the assembly. did it have the home button on it, or did you transfer it? most screen assemblys, do not come with a home button.

The original home button has not been taken off the original screen. The phone has been used for awhile with an aftermarket screen and home button. I found the original screen/home button and switched over to using it, but touch ID is still not working.

okay, was the screen itself working before you did the first replacement? (touch working, LCD working, just cracks in the screen?

So just to make sure I'm reading it right:

The phone was running for some time without the original home button, then you put the original home button back on but Touch ID isn't working?

If that's where you're at I'd try a hard reset if you haven't already, and if that doesn't work a backup and restore from iTunes.
