It has to be some problem with the battery. is it holding charge while is plugged in the wall?

Yes it is holding the charge. But will not turn on unless it is plugged in outlet

I would recommend you to get a new battery,Unless you phone has water damage. If that is the case it might be some issue with the logic board.
