Won’t turn on, orange light on.

Okay, so I got a psp that was in need of some repairs just for fun recently. It had no battery, no charger, and the screen was cracked. I got a Insten battery first, found that when the battery was in the orange charging light came on without it being plugged in. It would turn on and it was at this point that I found the screen was broken. I got a replacement screen and replaced it. Of course while I was waiting on the screen, I left the battery in the system. Once the new screen was in the battery was dead and would not charge. I put a starter charge on the battery and the orange light returned, but this time the system would not turn on and I can not tell if the system is charging. I checked the continuity of the charging system and it all seems to be in working order. So my question is this, what would cause the orange light to stay on, and what would keep the system from turning on? Any advice or ideas would be appreciated.
