Blinking Question mark on folder when I start my system

Why does my MacBook Air blink what looks like a folder when I turn it on?

That's all it will do!!

Your drive has likely failed. You might try reinstalling the OS onto your drive.

Your system when it was sold did not offer internet recovery, it needed a firmware update to allow for that. So depending on the OS-X/macOS release you have on your system it may not work. But its worth a try! Here’s how: About macOS Recovery

This means it cant detect a hard drive. Try to start it from some SOFTWARE DISK if you cant get then for cheap. Try burning them to your own disk from trusted websites.

Also try to enter safe recovery mode by power it on then pressing (⌘)-R  right after. Then reastall the OS

If none has worked so far take it to get repaired
