you do want to go ahead and check the backlight. In a darkened room set teh TV to a channel that you know is working (listen to the audio), then shine a flashlight at an angel against the screen. If you can make out shapes or silhouettes then you know it is your backlight. You will have to remove the back of your TV and take a look at all the boards. Post some good images of your boards with your question so that we can see what you see. Use this guide Adding images to an existing question for that. Pay particular attention to the power board and the main board. Check for obviously damaged components like domed or leaking capacitors etc. right now my first suspect is the power board followed by the mainboard and finally the T-con board.

Hi there,

I was watching tv when a bright red distorted image showed on the top of the screen, followed by a very faint dark blue screen. Audio continued to work. Made several attempts to restart by holding the on button, to no avail.

I replaced the t-con board, but the problem continued. I then I put back the old one.

Then inspected each board, and noticed a blemish on a coil in the power board (see picture).

I would appreciate some guidance, and thank you in advance.
