Shine a flashlight at an angle against the screen. If you can make out silhouettes etc. you know that it is the backlight that is not working. Could be a power board issue. If you do not have that then it is most likely a main board or a T-con board issue. For that you would have to remove the back from your tV and take a close look at all the boards.
