p610 camera to monitor toggle switch not working

Can not switch from camera view finder eye piece to monitor Nikon coolpix P610 [ have checked for firmware update but there is nothing available when i first switch the camera on the monitor comes on for a few seconds then goes of now and again when i am walking i will try it again and the monitor will come on but when i hold it up to take the picture it goes off and i have to use the eye piece.
