TV stays on for about 2 minutes and then the lights go off.

I have this issue as well, the TV stays on for about 2 minutes and then the lights go off.

I can still see the image on the screen with a flashlight.

I can still hear sound coming from the TV as well.

d65u-d2 is the model number.

I took the back panel off and have some pictures, there does not seem to be any black areas on the boards.

I’m having the same issue, backlight goes out after a few minutes. I ordered a complete replacement board kit from ShopJimmy. Replaced every board and still have the same issue. Anyone?? Help!

What you are describing could possibly be caused by a bad power board which causes the backlight to turn off, but can also be a T-con board issue. The power board supplies the voltages needed by the backlight. Of course there is a possibility that your backlight LED array has failed or you have some loose cable. You have to check this out by removing the back and measuring the output of the power board. If the power is supplied but the backlight turns off, it's the array. You do want to try to reset your TV. Unplug it and push and hold the power button for about 30sec-1min then plug it in while holding the power button depressed. If that does not help, remove the back of your set and post some good images of your boards with your question. That way we can see what you see and could try to assist you further. Thanks, I've added some pictures, think I found the problem though, there is one strip of LEDs that are totally out.

Do you think I will need to replace the trip? Or replace the board that powers the strip?

Thank you!

by

magnum_aht you can measure the voltage going to the strip and compare it to others. If it does not get power it's the board, if it does it's the strip. Not uncommon for those to fail and/or come unplugged

Amazing, thanks for the quick response, I'll order some suction cups so I can get the screen and underlying layers off so I can measure the voltage at the strip that is off.

magnum_aht sounds good and keep us informed.

I found an output on the led driver board that reads 0 volts with my multimeter.

Should I check anywhere else to make sure its not the power board? Or just replace the led driver board first?

I have the same tv. It did the same thing picture goes off and you have sound. It was the backlights! Order the kit from shop jimmy it’s like 85 dollars and problem solved mine works perfect now

Same here! I too have been trying to solve this problem. That led driver board gets hot and and that's why this is happening. I saw one video where a guy made a hole in the back of that TV and put a USB fan there, to keep that board cool…

sedrickvaughn does your backlight stay on when you cool down the LED board (should be an IC that gets hot)? If so I suggest a heatsink instead of poking holes in the case. If unsure try some electronic freeze spray and see if that keeps the backlights on. If it does not, you know it is the backlight array failing that may be the cause for the heating of the board (IC)
