Ethernet won't click when entered into the jack

I have the black MacBook (lasto one, 2.4 ghz core2duo ) and i had a problem for quite some time, but i didnt really think it would get so annoying...

When i enter the ethernet cable into the jack it won't "click".

There is no sound, and the cable easily falls out the jack.

It keeps happening lots of time, and it really gets quite irritating.

I remember some months, almost a year ago, that i inserted a cable, and an unexplainable clicking-like sound was made, but not the same as when you enter the cable...Since than, there was no more clicking sound, and the cable eaisily falls out of the jack.

Is there a way to fix this without buying new parts ?

Thanks ;)

PS. I tried lots of cables,it's definitely not a cable problem, its the jack

Solutions others have found: bent wire(s), or an obstruction inside the jack, missing the tang on the end of cable (they break off from time to time).

Good Luck,

I am actually having the same problem as he does. I brought my MacBook to the Apple Store last night and they told me the springs wore out and got bent out of shape. The computer is still under AppleCare (it's nearing 2 years old) and apparently it's not covered under AppleCare since it's considered typical wear and tear...I don't think it's typical wear and tear....

The "top" of the macbook jack is not tall enough at the outer (opposite the contacts) end. So, the latching tab can be slightly depressed downward by the aluminum, causing the essential hook on the plug to not fully mate with the hook in the jack. The solution is to file down the top side of the latch until the keeper will engage as expected. A more drastic method that would work with all cables would be to remove a notch of aluminum from the top of the case. Ugly, but effective.

I got a MacBook from my school. I've had this problem since day one. I think it's just a typical Mac issue where fanboys refuse to admit a flaw in design.
