Can a Buffalo DriveStation HD be optimized?

Is there a way a Buffalo DriveStation (2TB), which I use for recording TV programs, can be optimized or defragged? I'm having the same problem as the last DriveStation (1TB) I replaced with this one and I was wondering if there was a way to fix it. The problem is that it doesn't always record programs to their completion and/or there is bad pixilation interspersed on some shows I record,(but not all).

Any clues?

Thanks in advance..,

You can defragment through a pc, not sure if that would fix it or not. Just right click go to tools and defrag.

Hi Derek,

Thanks for the suggestion. I just tried to mount the Buffalo drive to my old Windows laptop,

but it's not showing up. I tested the USB port with a flash drive, so that's not a problem...

For some reason it also shows up on my Mac Pro desktop and I ran Disk Utility on it, but no change. And I'm pretty sure the drive is probably formatted for Windows...

I wonder if Buffalo makes their drives specifically so they can't be fixed, but rather replaced?

Or maybe there's some kind of format problem? I wonder if there's another way to do it?

Thanks for any other suggestions...
