Power button or flex cable?

I'm experiencing the constant "Slide to Power Off" issues and after reading multiple posts on this site and others I have one question to start off with.

What troubleshooting steps can I take to isolate the problem to either (assuming it's one of these) the power button or the power/volume flex cable?

On iPhones, the only way to troubleshoot modular components is to replace them with known-good parts. All of the guts for the Power Button are on the flex so that's what you need to look at first. Of course, it could be the physical button that is jammed or improperly aligned so while you remove the flex, take a good look at that. But if the button moves freely, then the problem is most likely with the flex.

Thanks for your input. I was reviewing the guide for replacing the cable and noticed the required parts included the Upper Cable Bracket. I guess I missed it but I didn’t see anything that explains why the original can’t be reused.
