Why does my subwoofer start to make a rumbling sound at high volumes

I have a cowin ark 4.1 speaker and have been using it for little over a year now. it was working perfectly but i have recently started to hear the subwoofer rattle at high volumes ? any idea on how to fix this? i have emailed cowin 3 times and they never responded

It sounds like a small tear in the speaker cone. It will be visible. Remove the cover to inspect. If it is a small tear, you can probably repair it with rubber cement. If larger, you will need to replace the cone.

Typically rattles at higher volume are indications of a problem with the cone not moving properly. This can be a tear in the cone, a rip in the surround or a problem with the spider. The surround is the foam piece around the edge. The spider is the part near the magnet that holds the cone in place. If the cone does not move up and down properly, it will hit the side and cause a rattle. The bottom line here is that the actual speaker requires attention.
