Water spilled on Mac, took “wrong steps”, uncertain fate

I spilled water on my Mac. I quickly dried off the entire computer. I did not know the proper steps so when I couldn’t get the screen to turn back on, I plugged it into my charger. It started up but when it came unplugged it completely shut down again. I tried once more and a black screen with a flashing folder with a question mark inside it appeared. I quickly turned off my Mac and began to let it dry. It is now being aired out by a fan. What is the possibility it will still work? Who should I take it to? HELP

Chances that it will get back to work normally are very limited indeed. Unfortunately almost everyone without previous experience tends to turn it back on to see if it still works before the device has been properly decontaminated from liquids. That adds further damage to the initial damage caused by the spill and home drying doesn't help either, since dry residues are left untouched on the board and they are conductive, spreading electricity everywhere in unpredictable ways.

To have a chance to minimize damage this guide should be followed but in most cases damage already happened cannot be undone unless by a proper repair in a lab specialized in microsoldering:

You must take it to get a proper water damage cleaning. As @arbaman said, almost everyone turns on or plugs in there Device prior to it being completely cleaned and it ends up shorting components on the motherboard. It still a possibility of being fix but the longer it goes without being cleaned properly the less of the chances of your machine working.
