fiestaernest your Ford, like any other vehicle at this point in time, uses negative to ground. The positive wire will go to the starter and alternator etc.

Hi,

To add to this answer, if the battery cables are colour coded the RED cable will go to the +ve terminal of the battery (also marked on the battery case) and the BLACK cable will go to the -ve terminal of the battery

Usually the right lead is going to be + while the left is going to be -. If you can post a picture that would help a lot.
