Optical lens not working or something else

I have a GameCube that turns on but is unable to read disks. It loads to the cube screen, but doesn't give me the option to go up and select the game in the console. I've tried numerous games, but got the same result every time. I borrowed a working GameCube from my friend to see if replacing the opitcal lens would solve the issue, it didn't. Any clues as to what is going on?
