Water Line Union Repair

The coupling (union) on my refrigerator water line needs to be replaced. The coupling needs to fit between a copper tube and a plastic tube, We have purchased the coupling and put it between the copper tube and the plastic tube, but the connection does not seem to be working and continues to leak. I am not sure why the new coupling is not working.

Thank you, we must have the incorrect size the first time, once we had the right size and made sure the connection was on correctly, the issue was resolved.

Thank you

Most of the time, these couplers leak because either it was a bad coupler, or it is the wrong size for the tubing. Measure the outside diameter of both the plastic and copper tubes, and ensure you got the correct size coupler. For example, if you bought a 5/16 x 1/4 coupler like this one but both the copper and plastic tubing are 1/4 in, then you will get a leak.

If the measurements look good, and you are convinced you got the right size coupler, buy another one. Its easy to get duds, especially if you get the pressure fit type.
