need help with speaker replacement

Opening up my late MBP I messed up the membrane of my left speaker, an authorized Apple repair center quoted me 650 euros to replace the entire top case (the speakers are glued to the body of the MBP).

I managed to find a set of speakers for 70 euros harvested from a dead machine, so it is possible to remove them.

I was wondering if anyone knows what is the best way to soften the adhesive? Do I need to use heat? Is it the same glue use for the battery? Do I need to get the battery solvent?

Thanks!

The iFixit Adhesive Remover is great for that job. I use that adhesive remover for all my adhesive destroying needs. You can use Tesa tape as new adhesive too, if you wish.

Hi. Did you fixed the your speakers?

I need to fix a left speaker and I already bought it from iFixit.

My problem is how to open the back plate of the MacBook, I think the screws are Torx 3. The screw is very tight in place and it is made with a hard metal, the Torx 3 driver bought I has a soft metal. It end up making my torx lose the teeth. I was very gentle but it did not help.

I would like some advice on the matter.

The screws on the backplate are Pentalobe ones, not Torx. Use a Pentalobe screwdriver.

Here is an update the my problem.

My MacBook Pro has having issues with the keyboard and it finally gave up. 4 Keys loose the caps and and 2 were at working at all.

I made a backup and took it to the Apple Authorized Repair Shop and the exchange the top shell where the keyboard is. Since the speaker are attached to it, it also fixed the problem with the speakers.

Because the notebooks have the Repair Program for the keyboards, I did not had to pay anything.

Now my MacBook Pro looks, works, and feel like a new machine.

A big thanks to all MacBook Pro users that complained to Apple about the keyboard, it is the best and the right way to do it.
