Memory Card No longer Works

Tablet no longer reads the memory card. Definitely not the card. I took it out of the tablet and hooked it up to my computer and everything is still on the memory card. Pics and files from games that I switched from internal tablet storage to the SD card. The tablet reads it as empty. Very upsetting since this is my son's tablet and now all his fav games are no longer able to be played. WHY?! I see many people are having the same problem with this tablet. Was also wondering if I can transfer all the files onto the computer, reformat the SD card, put everything back on the SD card and back into the tablet, if that would work.
